Welcome

Swedish
A massage designed to relax the body by stimulating circulation & releasing tension.  This is the most basic form of  massage, recommended for those new to massage or those wanting primarily relaxation from their session.  Swedish Massage includes a variety of specific techniques, applied with gentle pressure, to increase removal of metabolic waste products, ease muscle aches & tension, improve flexibility and facilitate relaxation.

Deep Tissue
Aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle & fascia, Deep Tissue Massage uses many of the same techniques as Swedish Massage, but the pressure will generally be more intense.  Administered in conjunction with other bodywork therapies, such as Sports Massage & Neuromuscular Therapy, Deep Tissue relieves chronic muscle tension and breaks up connective tissue adhesions.  Great for alleviating tension & pain due to overuse, injury, poor posture, stress, etc.

Sports Massage
Designed to enhance athletic performance & recovery, Sports Massage combines Swedish, Deep Tissue &  Neuromuscular techniques with cross-fibering, compression, myofascial release, lymphatic drainage & other methods to maximize the supply of nutrients & oxygen in the bloodstream while enhancing elimination of the metabolic by-products of exercise.  More & more professional and amateur athletes are finding massage to be a critical component of their training program. There are three contexts in which Sports Massage can be useful to an athlete: Pre-event, Post-Event, & General Maintenance/Injury Treatment & Prevention.  Regular massages can greatly reduce the chance of injury, increase range of motion, speed recovery time & enhance the mind-body connection, all allowing for improved power & performance.

Thai Yoga Massage
Also called “Lazy Man’s Yoga” or “Ancient Massage”, this dynamic healing therapy combines gentle palming & thumbing across energy lines & pressure points with passive stretching, leaving the client feeling elongated, refreshed, & energized.  TYM is performed on a thick mat on the floor, with the client remaining clothed.  No oils or creams are used.  This modality is excellent for athletes looking to increase flexibility & maintain structural integrity, as well as for individuals who are seeking a comprehensive full-body treatment that relieves muscular tension & balances the body energetically.   For more information, please visit my instructor’s website at www.lotuspalm.com.

Reflexology
Developed over 5,000 years ago in both Egypt & China, Reflexology involves direct manipulation of specific reflex areas in the feet, hands and ears that correspond to the various bodily systems, glands, structures & organs. Foot Reflexology is the most effective form, practiced widely throughout Asia today.  Pressure can vary from gentle to intense, depending on the client’s experience level & preference. All sessions begin with a warm foot bath & end with a relaxing foot & lower leg massage.

Neuromuscular Therapy
This technique manipulates the soft tissue of the body (muscles, tendons & connective tissue) to balance the central nervous system.  NMT works by locating specific points on the body, called Trigger Points, and applying pressure to those areas for the relief & control of chronically tight muscles. Trigger Points are highly irritated points in muscles which refer pain to other parts of the body.  They can be caused by injury, trauma, postural distortion or stress.  NMT is always used in conjunction with basic massage techniques, such as Swedish, Sports or Deep Tissue, to aid the body in adapting to changes created during the session.  Client feedback is essential during a NMT treatment.

Pre/Postnatal Massage
Custom-tailored treatment to give relief and comfort to expectant mothers. Hips, knees, legs and lower back are some of the common areas of concern.  Every effort is made to accommodate each client in safe & comfortable positions, utilizing special pillows & bolsters during the treatment.  Please be aware that a doctor’s note is required for all “high-risk” pregnancies & women should be in their 2nd or 3rd trimester to safely receive massage.  Postnatal Massage helps stimulate healing, induces hormonal balance, aids in reducing fluid retention and calms & relaxes Mom postpartum.

Hot Stone Therapy
Japanese Hot Stone Massage is based upon Anma, the oldest form of East Asian Massage.  Developed over 7,000 years ago, this method utilizes smooth basalt stones to release therapeutic heat while kneading, rotation & vibration techniques release tension from the muscles. Clients can choose to combine some Swedish or Deep Tissue Massage into their Hot Stone session.
